The Maryland Climate Crew Network
In the fall of 2023, the Greater Baltimore Wilderness Coalition (GBWC), in collaboration with the Chesapeake Conservancy and other partners, launched the Maryland Climate Crew Network—a Green Workforce Development pilot program. This initiative represents a joint effort among government agencies, non-profits, and industry leaders, funded through a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). The Maryland Climate Crew Network is dedicated to addressing restoration and resilience challenges in under-resourced communities while equipping young adults, as well as under- and unemployed individuals from these communities, with comprehensive green job training, hands-on field experience, and industry connections.
The program has established a robust green jobs network centered around four workforce development hubs in Central Maryland:
Grow Home in Baltimore City
Stillmeadow Community in Baltimore City
Howard EcoWorks in Howard County
Defensores de la Cuenca in Prince George’s County
Each hub is responsible for recruiting participants from their respective local communities, managing their cohorts, and ensuring participants engage in meaningful training and restoration projects. The network’s role is to facilitate collaboration among hubs and partners, share resources, and coordinate activities such as team-building events, specialized training, fieldwork opportunities, and industry exposure sessions.
Through these efforts, the Maryland Climate Crew Network aims to foster a new generation of environmental leaders while advancing green infrastructure and restoration projects across Central Maryland.
GET INVOLVED!
We are actively recruiting individuals and organizations to expand our network of hub sites, potential employers, and training partners. If you are interested in getting involved, please email Emily Morrow at emily.morrow@maryland.gov.
